Charleston Portrait No. 4 was recently on view at the Gibbes Museum of Art (May 3-August 12, 2019) in Charleston in the Mary Jackson Modern and Contemporary gallery. It is a part of a project revisiting the earlier exhibition Prop Master. Exploring how the exhibition we did in 2009 changed the collecting practices of the museum.

A pic from New Faculty Orientation at UNC. I was on a panel about “Infusing Research into Teaching”. Colleagues Glenn Hinson (Anthro), Jennifer Gates-Foster (Classics), Jerma Jackson (History), Alicia Septer (Marine Sciences) were all fantastic. Made me remember that the first day of class is so important...sets up the whole semester. This pic is with colleague Lucia Benotti (Romance Studies).

Always fun to come home and find a new publication in the mailbox. Thanks to Maite Zubiaurre for writing about my work from the U.S.-Mexico Border Project in her new book Talking Trash: Cultural Uses of Trash from Vanderbilt Press. She has a section on “Border Trash: Archiving Immigration” where she talks about my work as well as that of Alexandro Duran, Jonathon Hollingsworth, Thomas Kiefer, Richard Misrach, and Guillermo Galindo and of course Jason De Leon.
